VOLUNTEER
If
you love animals, we'd love to have you! We do our best to make every
pet's stay here a happy one. Happy pets are more quickly adopted.
You don't need to have a lot of free time. You can assist our staff
in many different ways, such as:
1. Foster Homes - we are currently looking for foster homes.
After animals are adopted, it is sometimes up to a week before they
go to the vet for their spay/neuter. Also, some new pet owners are
not able to pick up their pet for a week or two after adoption. Rather
than have these already-adopted animals take up kennel space, we would
like to find short-term foster homes for them. The length of most
foster arrangements is between a few days and two weeks. Occasionally,
we may have a litter of puppies or kittens that are not ready for
adoption, and would benefit from a foster home. To become a foster
parent, you must fill out an application at the Humane Society. Applications
will be approved after a satisfactory home visit and reference check.
2. Grooming Specialist - Learn to groom animals in order to
increase their adoptability and add to their self esteem and comfort.
3. Animal Care - Exercise, socialize, and feed cats and dogs,
and help keep the kennels clean. Assist customers who are interested
in animals.
4. Clerical Assistant - Perform simple office assistance, such
as data entry or filing.
5. Follow-up adoption counselor - Call recent adopters to check
on pets. Offer advice and answer questions.
6. Special Events/Fundraising - Assist with fundraising and
special events, including soliciting sponsors, organizing the event,
and helping the day of.
7. Humane Educator: Speak to area groups of children and adults
on the humane treatment of animals and the importance of spaying/neutering.
8. Website/Photography: Keeping our website up to date is time
consuming! If you like digital photography and uploading to the web,
we'd love help keeping this site up-to-date.
